Project Description

¨We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

If you had listened to the video, you would have heard the shock in my voice of realizing how close we had come to losing our lives.  On Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 9 pm, my mother, Joyce, was awakened by the heavy scent of smoke.  She immediately sprung into action, trying to locate the source of the fire.  She soon realized that the back section of the roof was on fire.  Realizing that any attempt would be futile, she instructed my cousin (her niece), Sahaiel to immediately exit the house. Upon exiting, they were both greeted by anxious and concerned neighbours, who were thankful that they were unharmed.

We are not quite sure by whom or when the fire station was called, but in record time, they were able to subdue the flames. Looking back, we thank God, because I could have been in my bed, and in a worse case scenario I wouldn´t be here today.

As a consequence of the fire, smoke and water damages we´ve lost everything on the first floor; and much of everything in our living room. We have so far removed the debris and power washed our home; but we are now faced with the obstacle of rebuilding our roof, painting, re-wiring, buying new furniture and clothing. With a humble heart, we ask for your assistance at our time of need.

“Fire can be destructive but we choose to look at it as a time of purification; from the ashes and the fire, we shall rise like a Phoenix.¨

I first met Natalee when she volunteered for Women’s Entrepreneurship Day celebration event in November 2018. Since then she has worked with me in an administrative capacity supporting the work that I do to empower women entrepreneurs. And she’s now part of the ShredWIZ team where we’re empowering companies to mitigate the risk impacts of information breaches.

So when I awoke on Wednesday morning to see the whatsapp message advising of the fire, I was shocked. Natalee has however faced this unexpected tragedy by looking up. It was a no brainer to jump to support her to launch this campaign and also to make the first contribution to it.

So my friends, please join me in helping Natalee rebuild her life. The $5,000 campaign target is just a drop in the bucket of what this family will need to restore the quality of their living accommodations.
